Prioritize Your Moisturizer Routine

Beauty is an ever-present element in our lives. Engaging with it can be enjoyable, yet it may also introduce intriguing challenges. It’s beyond just locating the ideal summer lip gloss (though that’s certainly part of it). It’s about making intentional and creative choices that reflect our inner feelings as we navigate through life.

Here’s how to genuinely enhance your outer beauty, from selecting organic skincare methods to altering aspects of your lifestyle.

When I once asked a celebrity her favorite beauty product, I anticipated a recommendation for a stellar foundation or perhaps a standout concealer or mascara. To my surprise, she replied, “Moisturizer.”

Admittedly, I incorporate moisturizer into my routine as well, but it hadn’t occurred to me to label it my top beauty essential. However, it certainly merits that acclaim. Moisturizer not only hydrates the skin but also offers anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties while preserving your skin’s health. Impressive!

02

Keep a Humidifier by Your Bed

This could be my ultimate beauty tip, yet I share it openly with everyone. My humidifier has become a vital part of my skincare routine while I sleep, and my skin reaps the benefits.

Homes often operate on cooling or heating systems that strip moisture from the air, so it’s essential to replenish that moisture. Humidifiers are designed specifically for this purpose, and some models even allow for the addition of essential oils, like lavender, promoting a restful sleep!

Make Up Your Face Like a Home

Don’t view makeup as a means of hiding; instead, see it as decorating your personal space—your body! Everyone will adorn themselves differently. Some enjoy the minimalist beauty of a bare face, while others thrive on the joy of applying makeup to create a new look.

I belong to the latter group. Makeup application is an essential part of my self-care ritual. It’s a personal moment where I celebrate my features, expressing my mood through colors and enhancing my confidence.

Mom Was Wise: Use SPF Every Day

During my teenage years and into my twenties, I maintained a mindset of “I’m invincible” regarding sun protection, which turned out to be misguided. Now in my thirties, I am actively working to repair the damage caused by unnecessary sun exposure. I’ve learned the critical importance of sun protection, not just for maintaining beauty but also for health, as UV rays can lead to skin cancer and accelerate aging. Research indicates that sun exposure contributes to 80% of visible aging on the face. Aging is inevitable, but let’s not expedite the process!

Every day, apply a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen with at least SPF 30, even on overcast days or when using a foundation that offers sun protection.

05

Embrace Clean Beauty Ingredients

It’s crucial to be aware of what we apply to our skin and whether those products benefit or harm us (consider: “What ingredients are being absorbed through your skin?”). Traditional cosmetic chemicals like parabens and phthalates are less than desirable!

Utilize online tools and applications like the Think Dirty app or EWG’s Healthy Living app to uncover clean alternatives. Typically, natural skincare and beauty items combine recognizable ingredients such as coconut oil for hydration, vibrant pigments from fruits and veggies, and rose water for soothing and anti-inflammatory effects. Additionally, natural beauty products tend to be more environmentally friendly!

06

Incorporate Topical Vitamin C

I started using vitamin C serum in my skincare routine recently and noticed remarkable improvements in my skin’s texture and radiance within weeks. I was glowing!

Research supports that topical vitamin C can promote collagen production and provide antioxidant protection from UV damage while reducing signs of aging and pigmentation.

07

Strengthen Your Confidence Through Good Posture

Maintaining an upright posture exudes confidence (even if you don’t feel it) and signifies strength. Studies have shown that adopting a tall, open stance can positively influence women struggling with eating disorders, improving their self-perception in mirrors. Good posture also enhances mood, reduces stress, and shifts your overall outlook!

Aim to remind yourself to straighten up and pull your shoulders back regularly. Imagine growing taller as you do so. Incorporating yoga into your routine can also do wonders for your posture—even one class weekly can make a significant impact!

08

Pamper Yourself with Self-Care

Whether for hair or skin, masks serve as lifesavers when dullness and dryness creep in. Stress, travel, and environmental changes can wear us out.

Investing in a facial mask from a reputable natural health store every few weeks can anchor you in self-care. When choosing a mask, ensure it’s tailored to your skin’s needs: gel masks are versatile for most skin types, while peel-off options suit oily or acne-prone skin.

09

Embrace a Beautiful Life

While I could delve into topics like natural sunscreens, eco-friendly cosmetics, and ideal posture, nothing compares to the impact of living a beautiful life.

This doesn’t necessitate grand adventures or fulfilling societal definitions of “beauty.” Sometimes, it’s about tending to your garden, cherishing time with relatives, meditating, or engaging in activities that spark joy. Give back—share your time, skills, and creativity. Paint, write, express your innermost self. When you recognize the beauty in your surroundings, you will naturally embody grace and beauty yourself.

10

The Importance of Your Attire

Wearing an outfit you adore radiates confidence in an incredibly beautiful way. Surprisingly, research indicates that donning formal attire enhances cognitive processing capabilities. (Yes, that sounds complex—it refers to spotting similarities between disparate items or ideas.) The next time you’re feeling fancy, remember that a more polished outfit can amplify your beauty and intellect in any setting!

Consider What You’re Applying to Your Skin

Many beauty and skincare products are infused with artificial compounds linked to serious health issues, such as accelerating skin cancer and reproductive complications. Determining the extent to which these and additional skincare components penetrate the skin and enter the bloodstream can be challenging. Factors like skin integrity and the molecular makeup of each ingredient influence this absorption.

Here’s a closer look at absorption science, along with natural ingredients to prioritize in your skincare.

12

Chemical Sunscreen Absorption is a Concern

According to a recent study published in JAMA, researchers identified that after just one day of usage, four common sunscreen ingredients (avobenzone, oxybenzone, octocrylene, and ecamsule) had penetrated participants’ skin and entered the bloodstream at levels warranting additional safety investigations.

Natural Alternatives: Safeguard your skin by choosing mineral sunscreens containing titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Unlike their chemical counterparts, these ingredients remain atop the skin, reflecting a wide range of UV rays.

13

Facial Absorption is Different

The location where a product is applied can greatly affect its absorption. A study indicated that the absorption of sunscreen chemicals on the face could be four times greater compared to the back of the body.

Natural Advantage: Since we often apply more products to our facial skin, it’s wise to choose those made with safe, natural ingredients like green tea, which protects the skin from environmental stressors and repairs UV damage, and vitamin E for deep hydration and rich antioxidant defense.

Watch Out for Perfumes

Aromatherapy: a girl with beautiful skin holds a bottle of essential oil near her nose and inhales. Close up, bright marble background.

Over 3,000 different chemicals are utilized as fragrance components, many of which are linked to harmful effects such as hormone disruption and reproductive harm. The fragrance ingredient benzyl benzoate, for instance, could potentially be an immune system toxin that absorbs into the skin at rates exceeding 70 percent. The term “fragrance” on ingredient lists can obscure the precise chemicals employed by manufacturers.

Natural Alternatives: You don’t need to eliminate delightful scents from your life. A plethora of natural fragrance options exist, like essential oils that benefit skin health. You can even create a personalized fragrance using a carrier oil such as coconut or jojoba oil. Sweet orange essential oil serves as an uplifting summer aroma, while sandalwood oil provides a woody, earthy scent that nurtures skin health!
